Adult & Child Wilderness CPR and AED certification is included in the course tuition.

This is an in-person course and subject to protocols designed to minimize the transmission of COVID-19 during the course. You must agree to abide by these protocols to attend the course.

These downloads contain important information to help you prepare for your course. Use the course syllabus as a guideline for making your travel and study plans; note that topics and times may change subject to local weather conditions. Remember you must be present and engaged for the entire course or practical session to be eligible for certification. Be prepared. Thoroughly read the student handbook as it provides detailed information about expectations—yours and ours—what to bring, wear, and how to study. Logistics

The practical session for this distance-learning course is sponsored through the Western New Mexico University Outdoor Program. Class lectures and simple labs are at an outside classroom near campus in the Gila National Forest with access to simulation sites.
Nearest Airport: Grant County Airport (1-hour flight from ABZ and PHX)*
Outside Classroom:
Gomez Peak Picnic Area, Gila National Forest
Lodging: Several options available in Silver City
Camping & Recreation: The WNMU campus is located six miles from the Gila National Forest; camping is plentiful. Faywood Hotsprings is a developed campground south of Silver City.

*Note: Advanced Air is the only airline operating from the airport. Contact the airline at 1-800-393-7035 or visit their website for more information and to schedule a flight. The airport is 20 miles from Silver City; car rental is available through Enterprise.
