Learn about upgrading a WFR to WEMR or WEMT
Our Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is designed for outdoor professionals, those taking multi-day or extended trips, and people involved with high-risk activities (rock climbing, whitewater paddling, mountaineering, etc.). WFR courses provide ideal training for people who travel in remote locations, in challenging weather, with limited equipment, unreliable communication, and little or no access to outside assistance.
WFR certification is the industry standard for outdoor guides and instructors, and graduates are trained to care for patients for extended periods and to make independent decisions about evacuation and resources.

WMTC WFR graduates who receive certification as an EMR or EMT within one year of their WFR course may upgrade to a WEMR or WEMT after passing our online exams.
Certifications Included in WFR Courses
  • Wilderness First Responder
  • Adult and Child Wilderness CPR & AED
  • Injectible Epinephrine

Our WFA certification exceeds WMEC certification standards endorsed by the WMS.

WMTC WFR certifications are valid for a maximum of three years; there is no grace period. To recertify, you must complete a WFR & WEMS Recertification course before your certification expires.

Registering for the Online Module only

We recommend taking an entire hybrid course whenever possible. There may, however, be some cases when it makes sense to register for and begin the Online Module before or without registering for the In-person Session:
  • You'd like to get started on the Online Module and there are not currently any In-person Sessions that fit your schedule.
  • You have time to complete the Online Module now, and may not have time later.
  • You are interested in the education contained in the Online Module and don't need certification.
While you may register for the Online Module only now, you will need to register for and complete an In-person Session within one year of registering for the Online Module to receive certification

WFR Online Module Tuition: $290
