The course is taught at the SUU Mountain Center, a spacious log cabin tucked away in the mountains of Cedar Canyon southeast of campus. Lectures and simple labs are held at the cabin with practice simulations staged nearby. The surrounding area offers a variety of terrain for engaging and realistic hands-on rescue scenarios.
Nearest Airport: Cedar City, UT (CDC) or Las Vegas (LAS)
Lodging: Housing is included in the course fee. The Mountain Center has several beds (sleeps up to 45), a kitchen, showers, and lounge areas. There is no cell service or WiFi available nor is there a landline; a two way radio is available for emergencies.
Meals: Meals are not provided; you will need to bring your own food. The kitchen area has a stove/oven, microwave, several fridges, coffee maker, and freezers. You will need to bring cookware and dishes. There is no maid service; please keep both the public and private areas of the lodge clean.
Parking: Parking in front of the cabin is plentiful and easy to access. The classroom overlooks Cedar Breaks and includes a gas stove, white boards, projector and screen, rectangular tables, an old piano, and chairs.
