SAM XT

The SAM XT is the best extremity tourniquet on the market. Its ingenious spring-loaded buckle is designed to quickly and securely lock the strap in place when the correct tension is reached to minimize the number of windlass turns required to cut off circulation to a severely damaged limb. The windlass is aluminum and will not fail during tightening.

The SAM XT fits into the rear spine pocket on our Guide and Expedition Packs or velcros to the tech fabric in either pack for rapid deployment.

Should you carry a tourniquet in the field? Maybe. If you work around farm machinery, logging equipment (including chainsaws), are a hunter, work on a disaster response team or in a tactical environment as a police officer, game warden, etc. where firearms are used, the answer is a resounding YES. Carry two. Severe bleeding is extremely rare on wilderness expeditions but consider carrying two if weight, space, and expense are not issues.
