Recertifying your WFA, WAFA, WFR, or WEMT with WMTC
Why recertification is important
A graduate’s ability to accurately assess a patient’s injuries or illness relies on:
Their ability to treat a patient also relies on skill training. In addition to treatment skills like wound cleaning, splinting, reducing dislocations, packaging a spine-injured patient, etc., gathering the information necessary to make an assessment [or diagnosis] is also a skill.
- their understanding of normal anatomy and physiology,
- their grasp of the relevant pathophysiology, and
- the amount of time spent analyzing case studies.

Assessment and treatment skills are perishable and decay over time without practice. Most guides and outdoor instructors are familiar with, and therefore, able to prevent most of the common injuries and illnesses associated with the environment they work in and the activities they teach; but, they are often unprepared when things go wrong in a BIG way.
In addition to providing supervised practice feedback, recertification students receive updated information, and have an opportunity to review the practical anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of select problems critical to making informed field decisions.
