Logistics

This course is sponsored by the Northwest Outward Bound School (NWOBS) and is taught at their Mazama, WA basecamp. Tucked in the foothills of the Cascades, the NWOBS Mazama basecamp offers access to numerous simulation areas right out the door and within a short drive. The realistic simulation sites make this a fun place to take a WFR course.
Note: NWOBS sponsors this course as part of its 50-day Northwest Outdoor Educator Course. Alcoholic beverages, smoking, and pets are prohibited.
Lodging: There are many lodges and nightly rentals in the Methow Valley so there's sure to be one to suit you.
Camping: Inexpensive camping is available at Early Winters Campground approximately one mile from the classroom. Early Winters Campground is a primitive forest service campground with picnic tables, water (no showers), dumpster, and outhouses; it's located just past Mazama junction on Route 20. Additional forest service campgrounds are located on Route 20. A state campground with excellent sites and showers is located three miles outside Winthrop at Pearrygin Lake State Park (509.996.2370); the KOA in Winthrop also has showers (509.996.2258); both take reservations. And there is a KOA in Winthrop with river access and a pool.
Parking: Free onsite.
Meals: Meals are not included. Please pack your lunch. There is a small store in Mazama and large grocery stores in Winthrop & Twisp.
