Foam Dressings

Foam dressings—we sell Mepilex®--are effective for all wound types. This is an advanced dressing used to care for wounds during an extended evacuation or in the field. The dressing adheres to the wound’s surface and absorbs excess exudate while maintaining a warm, moist wound bed; and, it can be left in place for up to a week. If the wound is at risk for a local infection, you can apply medical honey under the foam.

The dressing aids autolytic debridement of moist slough from the wound surface and is recommended for low medium exudate wounds during the proliferation phase of wound healing (3-24 days). It should be held in place with a transparent micro-thin film dressing or flexible medical tape. Flexible medical tape permits moisture to evaporate through the dressing and is water-resistant. (Use a simple Vaseline-impregnated gauze dressing during the first three days.)

The 4 x 4 inch dressing may be cut to size; store unused portions in a small ziplock bag for later use. A must to carry in your first aid kit for trips longer than three days. This dressing does not fit into the Minimalist Pack.
