Wilderness EMT

_General Information

Our Wilderness EMT Module is designed to meet the needs of experienced medical practitioners who are acting as an expedition medic or trip leader and only offered in our DLP format. Participants must be a licensed EMT (basic, intermediate, or paramedic) with patient care experience. Nurses, physician assistants, physicians, or veterinarians may also attend but will receive a completion card in lieu of certification and may be eligible for CEU. Similar to a Wilderness First Responder, the Wilderness EMT Module focuses on assessment and treatment of traumatic, environmental, and medical emergencies in a wilderness environment. Labs teach students the skills they need to improvise in the field. Lecture during the practical session is brief and focused on answering questions raised during simulations and case study reviews. While the focus remains on expedition medicine, the skills taught during our WEMT Module may be applied directly to situations where prolonged EMS transport is unavoidable e.g.: disaster relief, SAR, rural EMS calls, etc. Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) credits are available through the Wilderness Medical Society.

Hybrid DLP Wilderness EMT Module

The Wilderness Medicine Training Center is the only wilderness medicine provider who offers a hybrid Wilderness EMT module. It is the most effecient way for a current urban provider to learn wilderness medicine skills. Our DLP Wilderness EMT module requires completion of our home study program and four online exams prior to attending a five day practical session. The course is designed for students who are able to study the didactic material on their own using our course textbook, “the Art & Technique of Wilderness Medicine,” our field manual, “the Wilderness Medicine Handbook,” and the Wilderness EMT course web site. Access to a computer and the internet are mandatory; broadband/high speed access is required. If you like self-study, are disciplined, computer literate, and have limited time to attend a practical session, then our DLP Wilderness EMT module is for you.

Both the Home and Lightning Pages are open to the general public for this purpose; the remaining presentation pages are password protected.
