_Our Wilderness Advanced First Aid courses are designed for the recreational public who wish to learn more about lightning injuries, wilderness toxins, and treating spine injured patients than is covered in our Wilderness First Aid courses AND for day and weekend trip leaders in college or university outdoor programs. While the Wilderness First Responder is recommended for professional guides, instructors, and expedition leaders, the Wilderness Advanced First Aid meets most state licensing requirements for first aid certification and includes Wilderness Medicine Training Center adult & child CPR certification.

The Wilderness Medicine Training Center is the only wilderness medicine provider who offers both standard and hybrid Wilderness Advanced First Aid courses using teaching and learning strategies that inform one another. The result is a choice of format and pedagogy that meets your needs; either course may be used to recertify WFR, and WEMT certifications with the successful completion of our on-line Recertification exam.

_Our standard Wilderness Advanced First Aid course contain lecture, skill labs, simulations, & case study review taught over three days; no advance study is required. Standard Wilderness Advanced First Aid courses are best suited for students who learn best with an instructor present to guide and motivate them throughout the course and/or for those students who do not have the time to devote to the pre-course study.

Our hybrid distance learning project (DLP) Wilderness First Aid course requires completion of our home study program and an online exam prior to attending a three day practical session. Our hybrid DLP Wilderness Advanced First Aid course is designed for students are able to study the didactic material on their own using our field manual, “the Wilderness Medicine Handbook,” and the course web site. Access to a computer and the internet are mandatory; broadband/high speed access is required. If you like self-study, are disciplined, computer literate, and have limited time to attend a practical session, then a hybrid DLP Wilderness Advanced First Aid is your best choice.
